Who We Are

Innovative Solutions for a Water-Secure Future

At uMngeni Water Services, our projects and initiatives are the practical embodiment of our vision- to deliver innovative, inclusive, and sustainable water and sanitation solutions across South Africa and beyond.

The Projects and Initiatives division represents our commitment to impact-led implementation. Each project we undertake is designed not only to solve immediate water and sanitation challenges but to unlock broader socio-economic benefits: from job creation and skills development to environmental resilience and revenue optimisation.

Whether we are reducing non-revenue water in rural districts, reviving wastewater infrastructure, or empowering youth through technical learning, every UWS initiative is a step toward a more equitable and efficient water sector.

Key Focus Areas

Our Strategic Approach

Collaborative Innovation

We partner with Water Services Authorities (WSAs), private entities, and academic institutions to co-create practical, replicable solutions for service delivery and infrastructure challenges.

Our projects are designed to improve livelihoods, stimulate local economies, and empower communities- especially through the upskilling of youth and the inclusion of small businesses.

Through rigorous project planning, monitoring, and data-driven decision-making, our operations are designed to yield measurable social, environmental, and economic outcomes.

As a subsidiary of uMngeni-uThukela Water, UWS operates with commercial agility while upholding a public service ethos. We actively pursue innovative funding mechanisms, PPPs, and reuse solutions that create value while protecting vital water resources.

Our Approach

Projects are developed in direct response to on-the-ground needs, guided by research, stakeholder consultation, and performance data.

We work closely with municipalities, national and provincial departments, funding partners, and community organisations to co-design and implement solutions that last.

Our initiatives are built to be scalable and replicable- ensuring that successful models can be adapted across the province and country.

From design to delivery, our projects are people-driven. We prioritise local participation, community benefit, and inclusive economic growth.

As our portfolio grows, this page will showcase the full spectrum of impactful work undertaken by UWS- from infrastructure upgrades and WCDM pilots, to digital monitoring systems and green economy transitions in the water sector.
